15 septiembre – 15 octubre
*Visit this site to read an interesting article about being Hispanic in America: http://www.cnn.com/2009/LIVING/10/06/jimenez.mexican.americans/index.html

· What does it mean to be Hispanic?
· How have Hispanics influenced history in the Americas?

1.You will be assigned a geographic area to investigate. Investigate how Spaniards influenced the course of history in your assigned area.
Go to: http://teacher.scholastic.com/activities/hispanic/americas.htm .
Click the Launch button to launch the interactive map.

Examine the timeline available for your specific area. Take the time to really read the information provided. Write down in your notebook at least three facts concerning Hispanic heritage that you will share with the class later today.

2. Visit the following site and read about various Latinos in History: http://teacher.scholastic.com/activities/hispanic/history.htm
Find someone whose roots originate from the area that you studied in the previous activity.

3. Now you will create a Time Toast presentation revealing the major events that contributed to Hispanic culture and influence in the New World. You will have to decide what events are important enough to include. You will have to arrange them in sequence and then create the timeline. This project will be graded on the quality of the timeline, including your choice of important events, your explanation of these events, your spelling and grammar and the overall presentation of the project.

To create a TimeToast Timeline:

1. Go to: http://www.timetoast.com/users/new
2.Join Timetoast:
3.Type in your username – Please use your Spanish Name and last name with no spaces – for example: mateosmith
4.Use your school gmail account and the same password. Please use your correct passwords (I have a list of these if you have forgotten! ) I do not want you to have to remember multiple passwords!
5.To see an example of a Timetoast Timeline, see mine about Mexican Holidays at: http://www.timetoast.com/timelines/21758
6.Once you have decided on your important events, you may begin creating your timeline. Please be sure to note the name of your timeline so you can find it again! Categorize your timeline as “History”.
7.Once you enter your title and your category, you will start to ADD EVENTS. You may put pictures or images into your timeline as long as you give credit for the pictures you embed. See my timeline for examples as to how to credit the images. Continue adding events until you are finished. You may edit until your timeline is awesome!!
